Gundam History

When is the first Gundam Model kit was created? I asked once to my boyfriend but he could not give me the accurate answer even though he is addicted in collecting Gundams. So I decided to do some research. And here is what I have found, Gundam Models refers to plastic and non-plastic model kits depicting the mechas, vehicles and characters of the fictional Mobile Suit Gundam universe by Bandai. These kits have become popular among anime fans and model enthusiasts, especially in Japan and in other nearby Asian countries since the 1980s. The popularity of Gundam models increased in the 1990s with North America and Europe being exposed to Gundam through television, video and manga. These Gundam Models are also called Gunpla (ガンプラ Ganpura?), a portmanteau of "Gundam plastic model". "Gunpla" more commonly refers to the practice of building Gundam models, rather than the models themselves.

Combat AbilitiesEdit Combat and Technological Abilities section

Except its color scheme, the Gundam Astray Green Frame originally featured the same weaponry as the other three Orb Union prototype mobile suits, the two head mounted "Igelstellung" 75mm multi-barrel CIWS and two beam sabers. Besides these weapons the Green Frame is also equipped with a Twin sword rifle, a weapon that can function as both a beam rifle and an axe-like double-edged beam sword.
The Green Frame also uses a different model of sensor units that makes its eyes yellow instead of green like the other Gundam Astrays. The Green Frame also has an advanced AI to assist its pilot, which is an improved version of the A.I. system featured on the MBF-02 Strike Rouge. The A.I. system on the Green Frame was advanced enough to predict Gai Murakumo's movements in the MBF-P03third Gundam Astray Blue Frame Third when he was on the offensive, allowing Trojan Noiret to evade all of Gai's attacks. Despite this, when Trojan switched to the offensive, Gai swiftly defeated him, leading Gai to remark on the fact that the Green Frame was meant to be a defensive mobile suit, based on who helped build the mobile suit, Lowe Guele.

HistoryEdit History section

In CE 71, the Orb Union's Morgenroete corporation built five Gundam Astray prototype mobile suits at Heliopolis, the MBF-P01 Astray Gold Frame, MBF-P02 Astray Red Frame, MBF-P03 Astray Blue Frame, MBF-P04 Astray Green Frame and MBF-P05 Astray Mirage Frame, which were used to base the five G Project Gundams that they assisted the Earth Alliance's Atlantic Federation in creating. They successfully copied the EA's beam rifle and saber technology, but Morgenroete did not have access to the Phase Shift armor design, and compensated by making the Gundam Astray units lighter and more agile than their EA counterparts.
On January 25, CE 71, ZAFT's attack on Heliopolis to steal the Alliance Gundams also unknowingly interrupted the Astray project. In order hide their progress, Orb's military decided to destroy the Astray lab. Somehow God Hand Barry Ho acquired its wreck and rebuilt it with help from Lowe Guele. He later gives the Green Frame to Trojan Noiret a member of a guerilla force for use against the Republic of East Asia. Trojan used his suit against Gai Murakumo of the Serpent Tail mercenary group but was defeated by him.

Introduction to MBF-P03 Astray Blue Frame

Technology and Combat Characteristics

The MBF-P03 Astray Blue Frame is a prototype combat mobile suit developed using stolen data from the Earth Alliance's G Project. Most of the technology from the G Project was successfully copied with the exception of Phase Shift armor. In its place the Astrays' designers made the machines out of a lighter foaming metal compound and were built with minimal armor over the frame. This made the Astray mobile suits lighter and faster than their G Project counterparts.
Originally, the Astray Blue Frame was armed with the standard armament of the other prototype Astray suits. These weapons include two head-mounted "Igelstellung" 75mm multi-barrel CIWS, two back-mounted beam sabers for close combat, a Type 71 beam rifle, and a single physical shield. However its mercenary pilot used his resources to outfit the Astray Blue Frame with a wide variety of weapons to suit multiple combat situations. These additional weapons include a GINN's D-Type anti-fortress weapons, combat knives, and torpedoes.

HistoryEdit History section

The Orb Union's Morgenroete corporation built five Astray prototype mobile suits at Heliopolis, the MBF-P01 Astray Gold Frame, MBF-P02 Astray Red Frame, MBF-P03 Astray Blue Frame, MBF-P04 Astray Green Frame and MBF-P05LM Astray Mirage Frame, that were used to base the 5 GAT-X series Gundams that they assisted the Earth Alliance's Atlantic Federation in creating. They successfully copied the EA's beam rifle and saber technology, but Morgenroete did not have access to the Phase Shift armor design, and compensated by making the Gundam Astray units lighter and more agile than their EA counterparts. Unlike Gold Frame, Blue Frame was fitted with only Orb hand plugs, and thus could not use Earth Alliance weapons.
On January 25, CE 71, ZAFT's attack on Heliopolis to steal the Alliance Gundams also unknowingly interrupted the Astray project. In order hide their progress, Orb's military decided to destroy the Astray lab. Coordinator Rondo Gina Sahaku, an Orb nobleman, disagreed and attempted to save the 3 completed suits. He uploaded specifications into Blue Frame's computer for use of a variety of optional weapons and equipment, including a high-mobility booster and an enhanced head sensor. Blue Frame was soon located by Junk Guild technician Lowe Guele, who found himself having to use it to protect himself from Coordinator mercenary pilot Gai Murakumo of the Serpent Tail company, who had been hired to eliminate all evidence of the Astray program. Over the course of the conflict, Lowe abandoned the Blue Frame in a ploy to disable Gai's Mobile Armor. When the Serpent Tail were double-crossed by their employer (having seen the suits, Gai himself had become evidence of their existence), Gai commandeered the empty Blue Frame to defeat them, and after Lowe confronted him in Red Frame, Gai decided to leave the Junk Techs alone. Gai kept Blue Frame for his own use, and the two Astray pilots encountered one another several more times, sometimes as allies and sometimes on opposing sides.

Upgrade

Thanks to the uploaded data, Gai was able to equip Blue Frame with a variety of custom weapons and equipment to suit the needs of his jobs. When he was guarding the Eurasian Confederacy's Artemis space fortress, for example, Gai loaded Blue Frame with multiple bazookas and missile launchers taken from ZAFT. On Earth, he equipped it with a "scale system" backpack and leg units for underwater mobility. The latter proved itself in battle on Giga-Float against Gold Frame, in which Gai fought off Rondo Gina to protect the installation. Afterward, Blue Frame was severely damaged in battle against rogue "Combat Coordinator" Eleven Socius and his GAT-01D Long Dagger. Afterward, Gai, Lowe, and Orb engineer Erica Simmons collaborated to upgrade the suit to a form known as Blue Frame Second.

Blue Frame 2ndEdit Blue Frame 2nd section

Blue Frame Second had an altered head design, and mounted retractable knife blades in the heels and toes, which could be used as kicking weapons or as anchoring spikes. It also had fin thrusters on the shoulders and stored six "Armor Schneider" folding combat knives in its body. Erica Simmons' contribution was Phase Shift armor surrounding the cockpit area, and a two-layer armor for the rest of the suit, in which the inner layer's Phase Shift activated when the outer layer was breached. Lowe contributed the Tactical Arms system, which completed the first configuration, Blue Frame Second L ("L" for "Lowe"). Tactical Arms was a high-mobility backpack equipped with a 90mm Gatling gun. Tactical Arms could detach and be used as either a hand-carried gun, or the wings could fold into a 20-meter-long sword. Like Red Frame's "Gerbera Straight", the Tactical Arms sword was very sharp and covered with anti-beam coating. The second configuration was Blue Frame Second G ("G" for "Gai"), which replaced Tactical Arms with the Full Armor Phase Shift (FAP) system. FAP could, like Tactical Arms, be used as a high-mobility backpack, and could also fold around to cover the entire mobile suit with additional Phase Shift armor.
In addition, both Blue Frame Second configurations could carry an additional weapon: a mobile suit sized version of the Archangel class assault ships' Lohengrin positron blaster guns. This weapon was stored in two pieces on Blue Frame Second's hips, and connected into a single gun for use. It was powered by its own ultracompact nuclear reactor (mounted on the rear waist armor), and was quite possibly the most powerful mobile suit weapon of the Cosmic Era. Unfortunately, Gai did not possess N-Jammer Canceller technology, so the utility of the gun was limited. It did, however, prove useful against the huge experimental mobile TSX-MA717/ZD Pergrande, when Gai closed to point blank range (bringing Blue Frame within influence of the Pergrande's own N-Jammer Canceller) and destroyed it with a single shot. In the Second war, Elijah Kiels ZAKU and the Blue Frame Second are seen using METEORS, which are remodified Verne flight units, using parts of the METEOR 06-08 and the 04-05. The METEOR they use has it's own internal power source. However, The METEORS they use can only use the Beam sword and the beam cannon.

System FeaturesEdit System Features section

As the first model of the four Astray prototypes, the Gold Frame is equipped with specialized hand plugs which allow the suit to use both Orb Union and Earth Alliance MS weapons. For example, at one instance, the Gold Frame used a heavy bazooka which was originally meant for one of the G Project suits (more specifically the Duel Gundam).

History:

While collaborating with the Earth Alliance on their G Project, Morgenroete built four Gundam Astray prototype mobile suits at Heliopolis, the MBF-P01 Astray Gold Frame, MBF-P02 Astray Red Frame, MBF-P03 Astray Blue Frame, MBF-P04 Astray Green Frame, which in turn were used to base the five G Project units that they assisted the EA's Atlantic Federation in creating.
In order to hide their progress, Orb's military decided to destroy the Astray lab. Coordinator Rondo Ghina Sahaku, an Orb nobleman, disagreed and attempted to save all three suits. He commandeered the Gold Frame and used a heavy bazooka left behind by the stolen GAT-X102 Duel to blow a hole in Heliopolis that Gold Frame could fly out through. Unfortunately, Rondo Ghina forgot to calibrate Gold Frame's right arm, which was damaged in the process. He discarded the damaged arm (but kept the bazooka), and escaped the dying colony. Afterwards, he piloted the Gold Frame (still missing an arm) in several battles with Red Frame and its pilot Lowe Guele.
In the last of those battles, Gold Frame was severely damaged by atmospheric re-entry, when fighting Lowe. Lowe used an energy sphere produced from Red Frames arm, to destroy half the head of Gold Frame, which however also destroyed the Red Frames right arm. Gold Frame was then taken to Orb's main island, where Morgenroete upgraded it to the MBF-P01-Re<AMATU> Astray Gold Frame Amatu.

The MBF-P02 Astray Red Frame is a prototype combat mobile suit developed using stolen data from the Earth Alliance's G Project. Most of the technology from the G Project was successfully copied with the exception of Phase Shift armor. In its place the Astrays' designers made the machines out of a lighter foaming metal compound and were built with minimal armor over the frame. These weapons include two head-mounted "Igelstellung" 75mm multi-barrel CIWS, two back-mounted beam sabers for close combat, a Type 71 beam rifle and a single physical shield. Red Frame pilot Lowe Guele eventually added another piece of armament to the Red Frame standard armament, which is the "Gerbera Straight" katana. Lowe also created a 150 meters long version of this sword, which however can't be carried by the Red Frame in its normal configuration.
When equipped with the "Mars Jacket" armor, additional armament is added to the suit. These additional weapons include two katanas, two high-energy beam cannons, a single high-energy beam cannon and a dual beam naginata.
Unlike the other Astray units, the Red Frame had an additional feature, which could be used as a weapon. Like other mobile suits that use beam weapons, the Red Frame is equipped with hand plugs to exchange energy with weapons the suit carries. The Red Frame has the ability to emit beam weapon-like energy from his hand plugs which could be used as a emergency weapon, for example to temporarily blind enemies.

HISTORY:

In CE 71, the Orb Union's Morgenroete corporation built five Gundam Astray prototype mobile suits at Heliopolis, the MBF-P01 Astray Gold Frame, MBF-P02 Astray Red Frame, MBF-P03 Astray Blue Frame, MBF-P04 Astray Green Frame and MBF-P05 Astray Mirage Frame, which were used to base the five G Project Gundams that they assisted the Earth Alliance's Atlantic Federation in creating. Unlike Gold Frame, Red Frame was fitted with only Orb hand plugs, and thus could not not use Earth Alliance weapons.
On January 25, CE 71, ZAFT's attack on Heliopolis to steal the Alliance Gundams also unknowingly interrupted the Astray project. In order hide their progress, Orb's military decided to destroy the Astray lab. Coordinator Rondo Ghina Sahaku, an Orb nobleman, disagreed and attempted to save all three suits. He uploaded all the Astray data into Red Frame's computer, including the latest Natural-use OS. This proved fortunate for Junk Guild merchant/technician/pilot Lowe Guele, who discovered Red Frame (as well as Blue Frame and Gold Frame's discarded right arm) shortly afterward, while searching the remains of Heliopolis for valuable salvage. Lowe initially clashed with Gai Murakumo of the Serpent Tail mercenary company, who had been hired to eliminate all evidence of the Astray program, but the two joined forces when Gai's employer double-crossed him; having seen the mobile suits, Gai himself had become evidence of the program's existence. Gai took control of Blue Frame, and the two Astray pilots encountered one another several more times, sometimes as allies and sometimes on opposing sides. On one of his earliest missions, he encountered the Silverwind under attack from a Nelson-class battleship, and diverted their attack long enough for Lacus Clyne to escape.
Many people and groups attempted to steal Red Frame from Lowe, but his combination of resourcefulness and luck caused these attempts to all fail. The most notable was by Orb test pilot Juri Wu Nien, undercover as Junk Guild technician recruit Marlin, who briefly took control of Red Frame in an attempt to test its Natural-use OS. In the process, she and Lowe accidentally discovered that Red Frame's hand plugs could emit a sphere of energy, using it to destroy the sensors of another mercenary mobile suit that had come to take Red Frame. Lowe soon put this ability to good use in a battle with Gold Frame pilot Rondo Ghina Sahaku, using the last-ditch weapon to temporarily blind Gold Frame's sensors. However, Red Frame was forced to enter Earth's atmosphere during the battle, and lost its right arm in the process. Fortunately, Lowe still had Gold Frame's discarded arm from the Heliopolis factory, and used it as a replacement. He then brought Red Frame to Orb, where it was fully repaired at the Morgenroete headquarters. Lowe also bought the severed head of a TMF/TR-2 BuCUE Tactical Reconnaissance Type at a black market auction and mounted it on Red Frame's right arm to utilize the head's double-bladed beam saber. However, this unusual weapon was lost almost immediately afterward during a ZAFT attack.
After getting repaired at Morgenroete Lowe would use the Red Frame to aid in the construction, and then defend the Giga-Float mass driver from attack until it was complete. Afterward the Red Frame would be taken back into space where Lowe would use it, alongside Gai's MBF-P03 Astray Blue Frame, to battle Rondo Ghina Sahaku's MBF-P01-ReAMATU Astray Gold Frame Amatu, resulting in the latter's death.
After creating the Power Loader, Lowe used it with the 150 meter katana to slice the fragments of Junius Seven in half to prevent it from crashing into other PLANTs. Afterwards, Lowe and Gai teamed up to fight against insane ZAFT commander Ash Gray and his Regenerate. To fight the large suit, Lowe used the Power Loader and the 150 meter katana, but the Loader was destroyed by Ash. Following this battle, Lowe upgraded the Red Frame to the "Powered Red" configuration to wield the giant sword and with it finally defeated the Regenerate. Afterwards, Lowe restored Red Frame back to its original state.
After leaving for Mars, Lowe created the "Mars Jacket" armor for his Red Frame, with which the suit was still equipped after it returned to the Earth Sphere. It was here that the suit was stolen by Diego Lowell, a Mars colonist who came back with Lowe. Diego used the Mars Jacket Red Frame during the "Break the World" terrorist attack of October CE 73, when it used one of its katanas to slice apart pieces of Junius Seven in an effort to reduce the damage caused as they fell to Earth. Diego eventually returned the stolen suit, with Lowe afterwards transferring the "Mars Jacket" armor to an MWF-JG73 Civilian Astray JG Custom.
In Mobile Suit Gundam seed vs Astray, another Red Frame is developed from the mobile suit, the MWF-JG71 Raysta. Lowe's Red Frame however got totally damaged by the Librarian Works's LN-GAT-X207 Nebula Blitz Gundam, piloted by Lily Thevalley. After this, the unit is repaired and upgraded into the MBF-P02 Gundam Astray Red Frame Kai using the Tactical Arms IIL as it's standard weapon.
